The ICMS / INI people run virtual study groups for online collaboration to
address problems from industry and public bodies. The next is much more
open, and quite statistical. It is possible to register still and to attend
the initial talks or to contribute to the challenges offered. We intend
Newton Gateway will organise a follow up in person in the autumn, as there
is considerable interest and recognition there is much more scope here. If
you plan to attend you should register using the information below and
there is more current information on challenges and speakers. This is
proving to be popular already so ought to spark further ideas for projects
and community needs, for example from the intended National Academy of
Mathematical Sciences. Challenge titles and presenters are listed here but
there is more to it:
Challenge 1: Trustworthy Communication, John Aston (Winton Centre)
Challenge 2: Communicating Mathematics, Tom Whipple (The Times)
Challenge 3: Misinformation, Ed Humpherson (Office for Statistics
Regulation)
As well as some other speakers – please see the webpage
<https://gateway.newton.ac.uk/event/tgm122> and programme
<https://gateway.newton.ac.uk/event/tgm122/programme>, which are updated
regularly. Online collaboration runs all day Wed-Fri 18-20 May. Please use
the contacts on the pages if you want to ask for further information or to
note interest in follow up activity about communication of mathematics
intended for public audiences.
You may leave the list at any time by sending the command
SIGNOFF allstat
to [log in to unmask], leaving the subject line blank.
