ADVERT FOR COLLECTIONS MANAGER
EXCITING AND INSPIRING OPPORTUNITY FOR AN ARCHIVIST
The Mountain Heritage Trust (MHT) is a registered charity, dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing Britain’s mountaineering and climbing history, which can highlight stories and experiences of adventure, endurance, loss, and camaraderie through historic documents and artefacts. These items which, are often used in mountaineering and climbing exhibitions throughout the country, bringing the rich mountaineering heritage to the public.
The vision of the Trust is to create an innovative and exciting heritage offer for local, national, and international audiences, providing inspiring experiences for all through our unique collections. We are also developing and populating a cataloguing system which can be accessed by researchers, writers and interested parties.
Post-COVID developments are now being put in place for a new phase of development with exciting and ambitious targets set for the next few years, working in collaboration with national heritage organisations. We are now looking for a Collections Manager/Archivist who will have a varied and challenging role within the Trust, supported by a board of volunteer Trustees.
The Collections Manager/Archivist will be acting as a professional archives’ advisor to the Trust’s associated climbing clubs, heritage organisations and MHT members such as the British Mountaineering Council.
The working week will be 35 hours, based at the Trust’s office and archive buildings in the FSC Field Centre, Blencathra, Threlkeld, Cumbria.
The applicant will need to have honours graduate or equivalent, with a post-graduate qualification in museum, archives, or records administration; be a registered member of the Archives & Records Association/Museums Association (or working towards registration). This is a permanent post, and the salary will be within the ‘Archives & Records Association’ pay review scales for UK & Ireland – salary range will be £28-33.000 per annum, subject to
experience and qualifications.
