Dear all,
New Voices in Postcolonial Studies network will hold its annual conference (online) on 22nd June 2022, titled “Imposition of Power: Quest for Identity" and are delighted to invite call for papers situated in all themes related to postcolonial studies. Due to COVID-19 and the resultant increased inequalities across the lines of race, gender, and class, this is perhaps a more urgent time to address the fundamental issues of postcolonial studies: justice, injustice, identities, and the imposition of power. While these are the particularly favoured themes for this conference, this is an interdisciplinary event and is open for PGRs and ECRs at all levels to discuss their work on any theme related to post coloniality.
This conference aims at going beyond the narrative of a homogenous or ‘collective’ postcolonial experience to exploring multiple sites of impositions and oppressions under which postcolonial subject/s seek for an identity. We welcome a variety of approaches and viewpoints, as well as wide-ranging, and productive debates. Thus, we are particularly interested in interdisciplinary and/or cross-cultural proposals.
Alongside such concerns, we list here some additional suggested themes (by no means exhaustive):
· Imposing Power and Exploitation
· Governance and the Postcolonial
· Postcolonial Studies and Systemic Injustice
· Recovering from Colonization
· Reforming the Power Structures
· Pandemic and the Postcolonial
· Perspectives and Current Practices
· Migration and Diaspora
· Regions and Borders
· Religion, Politics and Culture
· Postcolonial history and historiography
· War and Terrorism
· Ethnicity, Race and Racism
· Class, Gender and Sexuality
· Neocolonialism
· Globalization, Literature and Arts
· Or any other aspect of the British Commonwealth of nations, or of countries formerly colonized by other European powers.
We invite abstracts for individual oral presentations of no more than 300 words with a short bio note of 2-3 lines. The deadline for submitting your abstract is 11th April 2022. Please mail your abstract to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> with the subject line “Imposition of Power: Quest for Identity conference abstract”.
