Dear colleagues,
We’re excited to announce the launch of a new journal, Progress in Environmental Geography. The journal aims to be a creative meeting ground for diverse inquiry on the interactions between people and their environments, highlighting the work of both human and physical geographers. It joins Progress in Human Geography and Progress in Physical Geography in providing an intellectual forum for agenda-setting review articles and progress reports. The journal will be published by SAGE with articles freely available and not subject to article processing charges for the first three years of publication.

Our vision is for the journal to provide space for multiple strands of inquiry that address a wide range of human–environment interactions. To this end, the journal has some distinctive features. We invite reflection within the journal on what counts as progress in environmental geography, and we are commissioning pieces reflecting on this point from varying perspectives. We also are doing progress reports differently, commissioning three reports from three different people, seeking input from a diverse range of scholars from different places and career stages rather than relying on one scholar to provide commentary around a particular theme of interest. We encourage thoughtful citational practices in progress reports and submitted articles to acknowledge a wider range of histories and presences in the discipline. We have also opted to organize around a six-member editorial collective and a 25+ person editorial board which includes a diverse range of international scholars.
We welcome submission of review articles across the broad spectrum of environmental geography, particularly those that focus on intra-disciplinary and collaborative work. We also especially welcome articles considering the following broad topics and their intersections and overlaps: Global environmental change and its politics, climate change and public health, environmental and climate justice, zoonotic disease, Black geographies, and Indigenous-led geographies. Submitted articles can be up to 8000 words inclusive of endnotes but excluding the bibliography.
Please see the website for more information about the journal, our editorial board members, submission guidelines, and our inaugural editorial detailing the motivations, aims and goals of Progress in Environmental Geography.
Please consider submitting an article for consideration in this exciting new journal!
Many thanks and all the best,
The PiEG editorial board collective: Lisa Campbell, Jamie Lorimer, Becky Mansfield, Tracey Osborne, Dave Porinchu and Sarah Wright
