Hello,
a Collaborative PhD position is available at the Human Computer
Interaction Laboratory (HCI Lab) at the Department of Visual Computing,
Faculty of Informatics of Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. This
PhD is in collaboration with the company Brainamics
(https://www.brainamics.de/). The PhD will employ as a full-time intern
in the company (Munich, Germany) and will be supervised by me (Simone
Kriglstein) at the Masaryk University.
Keywords: #Games, #GamesUserResearch, #Playtesting, #GameAnalytics
Short description:
At the core of each game there is a so-called gameplay loop: a cycle of
actions that you repeat over and over within a game. Each element in the
loop serves a specific purpose by eliciting specific emotional responses
from players creating an engaging experience. Brainamics
https://www.brainamics.de/ developed an algorithm that can extract
emotional states of the person directly from their brain activity. They
use EEG (electroencephalography) and machine learning to classify
emotional states of the player according to the arousal (activity) and
valence (positivity) scheme.
The topic of the PHD student will focus on the analysis of emotional
states data, mapping this data to the gameplay loop and detection of
gameplay patterns to identify which emotional states in the typical
gameplay loops determine the success of the game.
Requirements:
The student is expected to have (or be about to finish) a Master level
education in Computer Science, Psychology, Game Design or Game Studies,
or related areas, with demonstrated overview in the field. Good
knowledge of English language is expected as well as willingness to
spend 3-6 months in a collaborating group abroad during the PhD studies;
prior knowledge of Czech is not necessary.
Contact:
If you are interested in this position, please contact me
