If you teach on a HE music related course in England or Wales, could I ask if you would please circulate the below survey on copyright awareness amongst your UG, PG and recent alumni music student cohorts?

I’m a music industries lecturer at The University of Liverpool with a research interest in music makers’ engagement with copyright. The survey explores how the practical activity of early career musicians informs their awareness, understanding and assertion of copyright, and aims to gather data for a Routledge book chapter, and act as a pilot study for further research. 
 
To clarify, the survey does not ask participants to review your institution’s teaching of copyright. Participant contributions are completely anonymous, with no names or emails collected, and institutions are not identified by either name or type. I’m simply looking to get a broad overview of current student experience. However, if you have any questions or would like to review the survey, please email me for a PDF version, or just mock complete the live survey without submitting it. 

The survey is open now. I’ve included a blurb below/attached to share on your VLE’s, relevant socials etc., although please feel free to shorten and edit it accordingly.

Please Complete This Survey on Copyright Awareness

Dr Mathew Flynn from University of Liverpool hoped you could spare about 20 minutes to complete a survey on your current understanding and use of copyright in relation to your music activities. 

The survey is mainly tick box questions about your confidence in dealing with copyright, the sources of information you use, and how you engage with copyright on a practical level in your music making and career development. 

The data generated will inform a chapter in a forthcoming book ‘New Takes on Recorded Music: Critical Perspectives on Performance, Creativity & Technology’, and will act as a pilot study for further research.
