A new exhibition Audubon’s Birds of America – opened this weekend at the
National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh until May 8th.
Audubon’s Birds of America features over 40 Birds of America unbound
prints, rare books, letters by/about Audubon, archival material and
specimens from our collection that help to tell the story of this
landmark publication and its art and legacy.
The exhibition will also be displaying a bound volume of Birds of
America (from the Mitchell Library), plate no. 1 (lent by NHM), an
original painting by Audubon (from National Galleries of Scotland), a
life mask of Audubon (from the University of Edinburgh)…and a wonderful
wild turkey that he donated to our collection.
Exhibitions & Events at National Museums Scotland (nms.ac.uk)
You’d be very welcome to see it in person if you are visiting Edinburgh
in the next few months.
There’s also a free online event “The Joy of Birds” on 31 March
