The Interactive Technologies Research Group at the University of Eastern Finland is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher and a research assistant to work on an interdisciplinary research project funded by the Academy of Finland: ”Next generation sensory monitoring for improving microsurgical skills and performance”
The research will focus on deep understanding of sensorimotor perception and action in image-guided surgeries. A large part of the research evolves around the visual and tactile perception that underlies surgeon’s high-level skills, i.e. eye-hand coordination, action planning, and decision making. Situated in bimanual surgical tasks, our research combines human factors, human-robot interaction, computational modeling, machine learning, and computer vision for intelligent skill monitoring and interaction with robotic assistance in surgical procedures.
Postdoctoral researcher is expected to work both independently and as a part of an interdisciplinary research group and takes part in ongoing projects. Other responsibilities include mentoring junior researchers and developing future funding proposals. The Postdoctoral Researcher can participate in ongoing medical-computing education. The person to be appointed is required to hold a doctoral degree in relevant disciplines such as electrical or biomedical engineering, information technologies, machine learning, computing, medical simulation, cognitive sciences, or other relevant disciplines. The doctoral degree may not have been completed more than five years ago at the time of accepting the position (a net period of time, which does not include parental leaves, military service etc.),
