Dear community,


The Metamorphic Studies Group, the special interest group of The Geological Society of London and of the Mineralogical Society of Great Britain and Ireland, has just announced the Metamorphic Rocks! 2022 Video Contest. If metamorphic rocks are your favourite, tell a story of why metamorphic geology rocks!

We know… so exciting! You can use your love for metamorphic rocks and make some profit out of it! Who would say?! But first, let us tell you how…

You need to be succinct. The terror for the petrologist within you… We know that there are many interesting stories to tell about “why Metamorphic Rocks are your favourite “, but the drill is to do it in 90 seconds. To recreate your video, you can use all the resources that you have at hand (any good samples out there?!), and there are no limits to how you can record it. Just make sure that the content is appropriate to share on YouTube (no schist words!) and that you submit it by the 7th of March 2022 at 2pm (GMT).  

Whether you’re a student, an early career professional or an (assistant) professor, we encourage you to participate. Students under legal age can participate together with a teacher. The teacher will be held as the participant, but they should write, on their application, the name of the student, their school and age. Download the form that we made available on our webpage.
 

Submissions from any country and nationality are welcomed, and we particularly encourage people from minority backgrounds to participate.

And now, the PRIZES!

First place – £300 + 1 year membership in MinSoc if not a member

Second place – £150 + 1 year membership in MinSoc if not a member


Videos will be uploaded to our YouTube channel and shortlisted videos will be showcased during the Metamorphic Studies Group Research in Progress Meeting, which will be held in St. Andrews in 2022 on the 11th of April 2022, and where the winners will be announced.
