Fixed term appointment for 24 months, Full time
Ref: R6240

The Department of Media and Performance at the University of Huddersfield is seeking a Research Fellow as part of our Yorkshire Film and Television School Innovation Lab (YFTS iLab). This ambitious research project aims to address systemic inequalities in the film and television industries. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an interdisciplinary project that aims to develop new methodologies for addressing the systemic inequalities in the UK’s screen industries.
The post-holder will contribute to the YFTS iLab through:
•	reviewing existing academic literature related to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the film and television industries and analysing relevant industry and media policy documents related to EDI;
•	mapping the UK-based advocacy organisations in this sector;
•	designing, conducting and analysing interviews with UK-based advocacy organisations in this sector;
•	contributing to the design of a series of lab events that explore new, horizontal methods for artistic, academic, and professional knowledge exchange related to EDI;
•	disseminating the findings, including in co-authored academic articles and conference papers.
The Research Fellow will also be expected to undertake up to 6 hours of teaching per week.

The successful applicant will have substantial experience in undertaking research into race/ethnicity and/or disability and of utilising media industry research methods. You will have a deep grounding in academic theories and industry/policy debates relating to EDI in the media industries. An understanding of the UK film and TV industries is desirable. The post-holder must be comfortable working in an interdisciplinary and experimental context. The post-holder will have a clear commitment to EDI in research and impact work.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging applications from diverse groups currently underrepresented at this level, such as members of the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic community and those with a disability.

The Department of Media and Performance spans across subject areas in media, film, journalism and drama and is home to the Centre for Participatory Culture Research and leads the Yorkshire Film and Television School. The post is for two years full-time, although part time applicants will be considered.

If you are interested in this post, please review the recruitment pack information and use the online application form to explain how your knowledge, skills and experience meet both the essential and desirable criteria for the role.
