Call for Expressions of Interest to Join the UK Sustainability Research Consortium
Manchester Metropolitan University has a long tradition of teaching and research on matters related to sustainable development. Due to its engagement, the university has taken the 1st place in the People and Planet University League 2021, being among the most sustainable universities in the UK. Consistent with its commitments and engagement on scholarship on sustainability issues, Manchester Metropolitan University has set-up the UK Consortium on Sustainability Research (UK-CSR).
The mission of UK-CSR is:
“to network and provide support to sustainability research efforts to organisations from across the UK, including universities as well as the national government, local authorities social actors and the private sector, towards the implementation of the SDGs”.
Consistent with its mission, UK-CSR is expected to undertake the following activities:
1. Network and link up sustainability research experts across the United Kingdom
2. Elaboration of joint research projects to be submitted to national and international funding bodies
3. Technical support and guidance in the design and implementation of projects on matters related to sustainable development as a whole, and on the 17 SDGs in particular
4. Organisation of capacity building programmes such as training courses, seminars and specialist events on sustainability issues, in order to foster capacity among public and private organisations across the country, towards their implementation
Moreover, UK-CSR will use the transformative power of research in order to cater for a better understanding of specific needs and requirements from the public and private sectors on sustainable development issues, so, as to show how best to implement the SDGs, taking into account the local contexts, potentials and limitations.
Thanks to its integrative nature, UK-CSR will congregate the best available knowledge on sustainability research, which will allow its members to undertake joint projects, write joint publications for high calibre journals, and provide scientific advice and technical assistance to organisations working in this field.
Expressions of interest to join UK-CSR, consisting of a short motivation letter, along with an outline of the areas of research interest, and the details of the contact person(s), should be sent to the UK-CSR office at Manchester Met using the following e-mail address: [log in to unmask]
The deadline for sending expressions of interest is 30th January 2022. Further details will be shared with interested organisations.
