Are you interested in deepening society’s engagement with science? Are you keen to run a flagship event that will get more people inspired and excited about science?
The Royal Society, the independent scientific academy of the UK and the Commonwealth, is looking for an full-time, fixed-term project manager with demonstrable communications and events experience to deliver our flagship event, the Summer Science Exhibition.
The annual exhibition showcases the UK’s most exciting, cutting edge science to over 13,000 visitors in our central London building, with many more engaging in the digital programme. Covid saw the reimagining of the event in an entirely digital format in 2021 and we plan to bring elements of both versions together for 2022. We are therefore looking for a highly motivated candidate with a demonstrable interest in public engagement, experience managing large-scale and digital events, good attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Royal Society and contribute to the work of an enthusiastic and collaborative team whose remit spans grant schemes, exhibitions, awards, training programmes and events. The public engagement team deliver a programme of activities to inspire and enthuse the public about science, including book prizes, festivals, our flagship Summer Science Exhibition, and regional and cultural events. Alongside this, the team plays an important role advocating public engagement as an integral part of research culture and run training and grant schemes to support researchers taking part in public engagement.
The successful candidate will report to the Public Engagement Manager and will work closely with colleagues across the Society and external partners to plan and deliver the exhibition, as well as deliver other public engagement activities as required.
