Dear all,
Two new items of interest for you from the AMG. All details are also available on our website: https://www.minersoc.org/amg.html
Professor Martin Smith from the University of Brighton is delivering the next Open Geoscience Talk entitled ‘Mineralogy and geomicrobiology of microbially influenced steel corrosion in marine environments’. This will be on December the 9th at 15:30 (UK time), the registration link is here: https://ukri.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJYlf-2oqD0sGtyUJUU8BT05xkBJYSEzbE5P.
A new bursary has just been announced please see full details below – we would ask you to advertise this widely amongst your networks please!
The Applied Mineralogy Group is announcing a bursary of up to £2500, available to a student or multiple students to support active research on any aspect of applied mineralogy.
Eligible candidates are those currently studying at Masters level with a significant research component, such as MPhil, MSc by research or MRes in a topic within the remit of the Applied Mineralogy Group. Integrated Masters Courses (e.g. MGeol) are excluded. Priority will be given to candidates whose courses include the greatest amount of independent research activity.
The scope of the bursary is broad to attract the highest-quality applications, with a focus on applied mineralogy. Examples of the use of the bursary may include advanced or novel analytical work or other study-related expenditure.
The applicant will submit by email to the Chair (Eimear Deady, [log in to unmask]) a cover letter, a CV, a proposal including a costed outline of anticipated expenses, and a short note of support from their primary supervisor. The successful applicant will be encouraged to use low carbon emissions travel where available.
The AMG welcomes applications from students irrespective of location. The deadline for applications is the 4th of January 2022. The decision will be made by the committee of the AMG and successful applicants notified in mid-January. In the case of a tied decision by the committee, preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Mineralogical Society. Student membership of the Society is free for one year with evidence of registration as a student.
Thank you,
Eimear Deady
