The School of Computer Science and Engineering is seeking to recruit a committed and adaptable individual to join our experienced team of academic staff as a 1.0 FTE Lecturer. You must be sufficiently proficient in major programming languages in particular Python and R and have a good understanding of software development principles and data science pipelines and be able to adapt to teaching from level 3 to level 7.
Most of the teaching duties for the post will be in the area of Data Science and Analytics at undergraduate and postgraduate level though this may vary.
Candidates must have a high level (PhD or equivalent) of skills in data cleaning, visualisation, and modelling, e.g., machine learning/AI or/and advanced analytics (simulation, optimisation, forecasting, etc.), and an interest in applications to real world problems in business and industry, and the public sector.
We particularly welcome applications from candidates with a PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, and Operational Research, or with the equivalent experience gained in industry.
Duties will include teaching face-to-face and online, setting assessment, marking, and giving feedback, supervision of final year and post-graduate projects, and acting as a personal tutor to provide pastoral support to students. As part of the role, you will be expected to support students for competitions, work based learning and other opportunities for enterprise.
Furthermore, you will also be expected to contribute to School strategic subject based, professional or pedagogic research and development, and other scholarly activities in order to support your teaching. Staff are also encouraged to develop their external research profile and the appointee to this post will be expected to contribute to one or more of the School’s multidisciplinary Research Groups.
