Dear all,
We invite you to attend a new seminar series on 'The Materials of Ancient Religion'. These events will be held monthly on Microsoft Teams, normally on a Wednesday afternoon, from 5-6.30pm.
The first seminar is tomorrow (Wednesday 6th October) at 5pm, and will explore ritual uses of 'Flowers'.
There will be two presentations, followed by a Q&A and open discussion. The speakers are:
Dr Patty Baker of Pax in Nature (presenting on "Roman Floral Crowns: Social Meaning and Memory in Religious Festivals")
and
Professor Cameron McNeil of CUNY (presenting on "The Flowers of Ancient Maya Ritual: Pollen Evidence from Copan, Honduras")
Future seminars will explore ancient religious uses of 'Clay', 'Fabric', 'Lead', 'Bone', 'Water', and 'Wood' - with other topics to be added later in the year.
You can find out more and register for all these events at www.openmaterialreligion.org
We hope to see some of you there!
with best wishes
Jessica Hughes (on behalf of the steering committee of The Baron Thyssen Centre for the Study of Ancient Material Religion)
