Dear Colleagues
Final Call for Papers: Sustainable Development on Islands Nations and Regions
Island nations are fascinating places, not only from a landscape perspective, which makes them very attractive tourism destinations, but also due to their biodiversity and cultural heritage. They are also characterised by their vulnerability to pollution (especially but not only of marine nature), and increasingly, climate change.Overall, they can be described in two main categories:
i. Island nations as sovereign States
II. Island regions and communities which are part of non-island States such as those associated to North and Latin American, European, African and to some countries in the
Asia-Pacific region (e.g. the Balearic and Canarian islands, US, Dutch and French overseas territories, etc)
The importance of island nations and regions, and the challenges they face in respect of working towards a more sustainable future, illustrate the perceived need for a publication dedicated to these linkages. It is against this background that the book "Sustainable Development on Island Nations and Regions" is being produced.
The book will document and promote experiences on what island nations and regions are doing to pursuit´´ and implement sustainable development. It will also discuss the challenges, and the various measures being implemented to address them. The range of themes to be tackled in the book includes matters related to tourism, socio-economic issues, traditions and beliefs, industrial activities, education/ training, ethics, religion and the arts, among others. The Editors welcome suggestions of additional topics.
The book "Sustainable Development on Island Nations and Regions" will be published as a further volume of the “World Sustainability Series”. The series (https://www.springer.com/series/13384) is the most successful peer-reviewed book series on matters related to sustainable development on the market, with 37 volumes published to date.
