Technical Analyst (Economics)

NHS Jobs Reference: 907-133: https://www.jobs.nhs.uk/xi/vacancy/916764363

Employer: National Institute for Health and Care Excellence

Department: Centre for Guidelines

Location: Manchester or London

Salary:£47,126 - £53,219 pa (plus HCAS for London base)

We are looking for a skilled Senior Technical Analyst to guide the organisation through this period of dynamic transformation.

The Role
Reporting to the Technical Adviser, the Senior Technical Analyst will be responsible for providing advice and technical support to committees on economic issues during development and updating of guidelines. This includes systematically identifying and appraising economic evidence to address key health and social care questions and preparing structured summaries of the evidence.

The post holder will also undertake the development of original, applied decision models and analyses that will be used to inform the deliberations of the guideline committee (comprising decision-makers who are predominantly clinical, public health, social care and patient experts with limited formal expertise in economics).

Providing a quality assurance function, the post holder will be involved in reviewing guidelines produced by other developers to ensure they reflect the economic evidence appropriately. This function also includes ensuring that economic modelling and statistical analyses produced by the developer have been conducted robustly, are in line with NICE’s methods and are free from technical errors.

There will also be the opportunity to mentor junior analysts.

What you will bring to NICE
The primary requirement for the position is demonstrable ability in the practical application of mathematical modelling to inform real-world decision problems.

The post holder should be able to demonstrate the following:
•	Skills and experience in economics, decision analytic modelling, ideally gained in the context of economic evaluation for health, public health or social care.
•	Expert ability in the analysis and synthesis of quantitative data.
•	Ability to communicate the methods and results of complex analyses to a range of audiences, both orally and in writing.

To be considered for this role applicants should demonstrate the skills and experiences listed in the person specification in their application.

At present, the team has a preference for models developed in MS Excel, R, TreeAge and/or WinBUGS; however, applications from candidates with experience in other platforms are welcome.

You will have the opportunity to extend your own skills in modelling and economics and contribute to methodological developments in the field.

Why NICE
•	Here at NICE we are passionate and proud of the work we do and the impact we make.
•	We can offer you a great place to work with good benefits, flexible working, and a supportive, friendly and inclusive environment.
•	We have an academic culture committed to producing high quality work and we take collective responsibility.

As an organisation we all collaborate to achieve the same goal through empowering our workforce to do great things. Health and well-being are a top priority for us because we understand the importance of creating a respectful, supportive, and transparent environment for all our employees.

The Department
The Centre for Guidelines is a world-leading authority in developing clinical, public health and social care guidelines. It provides recommendations for the NHS and local authorities on appropriate prevention, treatment and care options for people in England, based on systematic appraisal of the best available evidence of effectiveness and cost effectiveness.

For an informal discussion please contact Lesley Owen (Technical Adviser – economics): [log in to unmask], +44 (0)20 7045 2145

Closing date: 24 October 2021

Interview date: w/c 8 November 2021

We have modern offices in Manchester city centre and Stratford, London. Staff are now able to work in the office and from October will be encouraged to work a minimum of 1 day a week (or 4 days a month). Please take into consideration that you may be required to commute to one of our offices.

We are a flexible employer, and you will have the opportunity to discuss any potential for flexible working with your manager
