2022 Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO 2022)
July 9-13, 2022, Boston, USA
https://gecco-2022.sigevo.org/HomePage
Important Dates:
Tutorials, Workshops, and Competitions:
Proposals: November 5th, 2021
Acceptance Decision: December 3rd, 2021
Conference: July 9-13, 2022
*** Call for Tutorials ***
Tutorials at GECCO 2022 will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about
current theory and practice in evolutionary computation from the domain
experts. We are now inviting proposals for tutorials. Each tutorial is
expected to be 110 minutes long. We encourage the inclusion of interactive
activities and demos.
Tutorials will be free to all GECCO 2022 attendees. It is expected that all the
instructors involved in an accepted tutorial will attend the conference. One
instructor/presenter of each accepted tutorial will get a discounted
registration. The discount can be divided among tutorial instructors if there
are more than one. Each presenter is eligible for only a single tutorial
discount, i.e., it is not possible to aggregate discounts from more tutorials.
If a tutorial instructor is also presenting papers/workshop papers/posters,
then this discount is halved (i.e. 50% shared between speakers).
Accepted tutorials' slide sets will be published as part of a Companion volume
to the conference proceedings in the ACM Digital library.

*** Call for Workshops ***
GECCO workshops provide the opportunity to jointly develop the vision for the
future of Evolutionary Computation and exchange ideas in an informal and often
interactive setting. Many workshops focus on emerging research fields or
interdisciplinary research areas. Differently from regular sessions, most
workshops host interactive sessions (discussions, demonstrations, etc.).
Attendance at the workshops will be free to all GECCO attendees.
Workshop organizers are responsible for coordination and publicity. They
collect and review papers, and provide a list of accepted papers and their
authors, if applicable. If required, the GECCO organizers may provide
additional support to the workshop organizers, such as publicity. Note that
organizers, participants and presenters must register for the conference.
Accepted workshop papers will be published as part of a Companion volume to the
conference proceedings in the ACM Digital library.
* Workshop Proposal Submission *
Workshop Proposals are submitted using the form in the GECCO 2022 web page https://gecco-2022.sigevo.org/Workshop-Proposals. Instructions on how to
login in the web page and how to create an account are provided in the webpage.
Submitters should be prepared to provide the following information:
1. The workshop title and acronym (or short title). Please refrain from using
special characters in the title.
2. A description of scope and content. This field will be displayed on the
website as the default description for the workshop if it is accepted.
3. The name, affiliation, email and short bio of the organizer(s). The first
organizer will be the default contact person, but more organizers can be
designated as contact person.
4. (Optional) A URL with more info about the workshop.
5. The expected number of participants to the workshop.
6. Whether the organizers plan to invite speakers to the workshop.
7. (Optional but highly encouraged) A description of any interactive activity
or demo planned within the workshop.
8. The estimated duration (1 to max 4 sessions) and type of sessions, e.g. the
expected presentation formats (invited, submitted), interactive elements, etc. One session lasts 110 minutes. A typical workshop takes at most two sessions.
9. (Optional) If this workshop (or a similar event coordinated by the same
organizers or a subset of them) has taken place in previous years, either at
GECCO or at other events, please include URLs to the event pages.
10. (Optional) Any other relevant information to help evaluate the workshop
proposal.
* Reviewing of Proposals *
Workshop proposals will be reviewed by the Workshop Chairs and other members of

*** Call for Competitions ***
Competitions demonstrate how Evolutionary Computation and related techniques
can be utilized in challenging practical, real-world and gaming settings. They
also enable fair comparisons between algorithms and (for recurrent
competitions) provide the possibility to follow the development of approaches
over time.
We are offering the publication of short algorithm descriptions as 2-page
contributions to the GECCO Companion. The competition organizers decide whether
they want to offer this to the competition participants — the 2-page paper will require
at least one author to register at the conference as a presenter. The deadline for
these algorithm descriptions will be in April 2022, and they will be reviewed by the
respective competition organizers. Your competition’s deadline can be after the
2-pagers are due, e.g. in June.
* Prizes *
While fame and certificates attract some participants, others are attracted by
prizes. We encourage the competition organizers to source sponsor prizes. The
sponsors can either directly donate a prize to your competition, or they can
sign up for an official ‘GECCO-level’ sponsorship (or a customized variant of
one): https://gecco-2022.sigevo.org/Call-for-Sponsors where, of course, an
agreement would be made that their donation is meant to sponsor (in part or in
total) the competition. Please note that we are merely encouraging this as a
way of attracting additional attention — it is not mandatory to have a
sponsor, and we might even be able to organize a sponsor for you, if
interested.
* Competition Proposal Submission *
Competition Proposals are submitted using the form in the GECCO 2022 web page https://gecco-2022.sigevo.org/Competition-Proposals. Instructions on how to
log into the webpage and how to create an account are provided on the webpage.
Submitters should be prepared to provide the following information:
1. The competition title. Please refrain from using special characters in the
title.
2. A description of the competition. This field will be displayed on the
website as the default description for the competition if it is accepted.
3. The name, affiliation, email and short bio of the organizer(s). The first
organizer will be the default contact person, but more organizers can be
designated as contact person.
4. (Optional) A URL with more info about the competition.
5. The deadline for competitors to submit their artifacts/results (it can be
after the 2-pagers are due, if this option is offered to the participants).
6. (Optional) If the competition has been held before, then also provide the
web address of the last edition and what you will change in case you plan any
changes.
7. Description of any prizes and how they will be sourced.
8. Description of the judging process.
9. (Optional) How do you plan to encourage newcomers? Can you provide tutorials
(incl. videos) to make the entrance easier?
10. (Optional) What is the dissemination plan for the submitted artifacts
(please explain how you would like to handle the potential issues related to
intellectual property of the artifacts, if any).
11. (Optional) Any other relevant information to help evaluate the competition
proposal.
* Reviewing of Proposals *
Competition proposals will be reviewed by the Competition Chairs and other members of the GECCO 2022 organizing committee, based on GECCO attendees' and competitors’ likely interest, the breadth and the depth of the topic(s), and the expertise and credentials of the organizer(s).
