About the role
Restore plc is currently recruiting for an Archive Assistant (unqualified) to join a small team working for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) at Hanslope Park near Milton Keynes. The project supports compliance with the Public Records Act in relation to the release of records to The National Archives (TNA).
The position will give the successful candidate experience of working for a prestigious and high-profile organisation. Specific volume and accuracy targets must be met.
This is an unqualified position, with the possibility of eventual promotion to a qualified role for a suitable candidate. The position will be an excellent opportunity for a graduate looking to obtain experience before taking archive qualifications or following an archives or records management course by distance learning. Candidates studying by distance learning will be allowed paid leave to attend summer school in addition to their normal leave allocation.
The position is on a fixed-term contract until 31 August 2022, with the possibility of extension beyond this point.
Hanslope Park is a landscaped site seven miles north of Milton Keynes. The site includes a subsidised staff restaurant, a gym and nursery (subject to availability of places).
Main responsibilities
- Listing paper and digital records in preparation for selection decisions
- Physical preparation of documents for transfer to The National Archives
- Participating in annual verification of the Archive Inventory
- Participating in development training
What we are looking for
Essential
- Confident using Microsoft Excel
- A methodical approach, close attention to detail and high standards of spelling, grammar and punctuation
- High standards of personal organisation to manage a varied workload with the ability to respond to changing priorities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to carry out repetitive tasks, when required, without compromising accuracy
Desirable
- Interest in archives, heritage or related fields
Successful candidates will be required to undergo security vetting to DV level before taking up the position, a process which can take up to 6 months. To be eligible for DV clearance applicants must hold British nationality and have lived in the UK for at least the last 10 years.
It is desirable for the successful candidate to have their own transport as Hanslope Park is not served by public transport. Free parking is available on site.
Hours: The working week is 37.5 hours. The working day is 08:00-16:00, with 30 minutes for lunch.
Salary: £21,253 p.a. An annual discretionary bonus of £1,500 is payable, subject to targets being met.
