Villa I Tatti, The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies, is excited to announce a new, joint, residential fellowship for 2022-2023 (apologies for cross posting).
NEW: I Tatti/Dumbarton Oaks Joint Fellowship<https://itatti.harvard.edu/i-tattidumbarton-oaks-joint-fellowship> (deadline 1 November) Scholars will spend six months (July-December) in Florence and six months (January-June) in Washington, D.C. The fellowship will focus on exchanges and interactions between Italy and territories of the East Christian world, widely conceived, encompassing Byzantium and the Post-Byzantine Greek world as well as North and East Africa, the Near East, the Caucasus, the Balkans, India, Russia, and contact zones between Eastern and Western Christianity. This collaboration aims to support early-career scholars whose work explores cross-cultural contacts in and beyond the late medieval and early modern Mediterranean through the study of art, architecture, archaeology, history, literature, material culture, music, philosophy, religion, or science. Preference will be given to projects that draw upon the history and cultural patrimony of Italy as well as that of the East Christian world.
And new last year: I Tatti/DHI Rom Joint Fellowship for African Studies<https://itatti.harvard.edu/i-tatti-dhi-rom-joint-fellowship-african-studies> (deadline November 15) for post-doctoral scholars working in fields related to the study of precolonial and colonial African history c. 1250-1750, including art history, the history of expressive cultures, musicology, economic history, intellectual, political, and religious history, as well as literature and languages. Preference will be given to projects that address the relationship between the African continent and the Mediterranean world during the early modern period, broadly understood historically to include the period from the 14th through the 17th centuries. Fellows will spend five months (September 1, 2022 - January 30, 2023) in Rome at the DHI and five months (February 1 - June 30, 2023) in Florence at I Tatti.
