Dear members of the International Network for Early Modern Festival Study,

Who doesn't like contemporary re-enactments of early modern festivals? Professor Tracey Hill (Bath Spa University) kindly asked me to share the advertisement below: a partial re-enactment by The Beyond Shakespeare Company of the Lord Mayor’s Show from 1621 in London. Warmly recommended for anyone living in - or near(ish) to - England's capital!

Festive wishes,

Dr Bram van Leuveren (he/they)

The Beyond Shakespeare Company
Lord Mayor's Show 1621 Reconstructed
29th October, 2021
St Mary le Bow Churchyard, Cheapside, London

On Friday 29th October 2021 we're reconstructing (in a playful way) the Lord Mayor’s Show from 1621, four hundred years after the original one off show. The Sun in Aries was written by Thomas Middleton for the incoming Lord Mayor Edward Barkham of the Drapers Company. The surviving text of the Triumph will be performed three times in the afternoon by Beyond Shakespeare with the support of the SRS Public Engagement Scheme, Cheapside Business Alliance, Bath Spa University and St Mary-le-Bow Church.

The Pageant Master is award-winning theatre maker Robert Crighton, with our City Chronologer Professor Tracey Hill of Bath Spa University.
