This message is sent on behalf of Thomas Drew and Katerina Pavlidi who are searching for papers to complete their panel proposal for BASEES 2022.
We propose a panel for BASEES 2022 that investigates the continuations and/or consequences of the late-Soviet, unofficial Russophone art worlds on post-Soviet culture, in terms of movements, forms of creative expression, themes and devices. We welcome papers on a variety of artistic media and forms, such as literature, poetry, music, film, performance art, installations and photography. Papers should engage with late Socialism and/or the legacies of this period of intense creativity and experimentation on subsequent artistic movements from the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Proposals for papers which relate to the panel's themes in broader terms are also welcome. The aim of this panel is, in part, to identify and discuss the ramifications of artistic themes developed in the late-Soviet underground on the post-Soviet Russophone culture. It also considers the impact of formal and multimedia experimentations within the context of the late-Soviet artistic underground on contemporary artistic experimentations with digital media; and compares themes and devices across media.
To register interest in presenting a paper, please email Thomas Drew ([log in to unmask]) and Katerina Pavlidi ([log in to unmask]) by the 17th September, ahead of the BASEES proposal deadline of the 30th September.
