At our upcoming Annual General Meeting, to take place on 25th August 2021 (details to follow), we have a number of roles on the committee coming available.
If you would be interested in any of these roles, you should send your nomination (in writing) to the Committee's Secretary (Dr Will Andrews, email: [log in to unmask]), including the details of both a proposer and a seconder.

Membership Secretary of the SCGRG
COMMITTEE ROLES
Role: Website Officer (3 year term)
Role Description: Maintaining and updating the website of the Research Group. This includes advertising events and activities, on behalf of the committee members, these might relate to the group, the RGS-IBG and beyond. The role also includes, advertising calls for session proposals at RGS-IBG conferences, advertising SCGRG sessions at the RGS and annual submissions for the dissertation prize. The website officer also liaises with the Social Media Officer to co-ordinate the posting of content.
Role: Postgraduate Representative (1 year term), 2 posts available
Role Description: Promotion of postgraduate interests and needs to the wider Research Group, and maintaining connection with wider postgraduate community through the Postgraduate Forum (PGF). The latter may include representing the Research Group within the planning for the PGF’s Mid-Term Conference.
Role: Ordinary Committee Member (3 year term), 3 posts available
Role Description: Supporting the work of the Research Group and providing feedback and input on the Research Group’s activities at Committee meetings. This may include sharing some workload with other roles, when helping with planned activities.
Role: Conference Officer (1 year term)
Role Description: Leading the coordination of the Research Group’s sponsorship and organisation of sessions at the RGS-IBG Annual Conference and other related events and activities. The role involves compiling call for sessions proposals, liaising with session proposers, and organising the vote on the proposals by the committee. This role includes liaising with the Social Media & Website Officers, in order to advertises calls and sessions for the Annual Conference. The Conference Officer would usually also be involved in SCGRG’s wider committee activities.
Role: Education Officer (1 year term)
Role Description: Focusing on the importance of teaching in social and cultural geographies, this role includes the coordination of activities and events related to HE and geography pedagogy, as well as maintaining the invaluable connection between research and events in the field and the research-based teaching of the subdiscipline. The Education Officer would usually also be involved in SCGRG’s wider committee activities.
Role: Dissertation Prize Officer (1 year term)
Role Description: Coordination of the judging and awarding of prizes for undergraduate dissertations in line with the Research Group’s policy. This role includes advertising the Award via the RGS-IBG website and coordinating the selection and judging process.
The Dissertation Prize Officer would usually also be involved in SCGRG’s wider committee activities.
Role: Membership Secretary (3 year term)
Role Description: Working with RHED to manage changes to the Research Group’s membership list. The Membership Secretary would usually also be involved in SCGRG’s wider committee activities.
Role: Treasurer
Role Description: Overseeing the Research Group’s finances, aiding with the transfer of any funding used for events and activities, either by the Group itself or by way of the Groups’ sponsorship of other events. This role includes the production of an Annual Financial Report, covering a financial year of 1st Sept-31st Aug. The Treasurer would usually also be involved in SCGRG’s wider committee activities.
