Dear all,

Apologies for crossposting. Please distribute to potentially interested people. Thank you.

The Birth Rites Collection is the first and only collection of contemporary artwork dedicated to the subject of childbirth.

Join us for virtual tours of the Birth Rites Collection filmed onsite at Guy's Campus, King's College London, and led around over zoom by Hermione Wiltshire and Ellie Featherby (BRC tour leaders). A zoom link will be sent 24 hours before the tour is due to start .

Hermione Wiltshire is an Artist and co-head of the Photography Programme, RCA. Her practice is an expanded photographic one that extends the physical status of the photographic image in multiple ways. Current research interests include Feminist aesthetics, the visual lexicon of sexual reproduction and the field of maternal studies. Her artwork Terese in Ecstatic Childbirth is part of The Birth Rites Collection at King’s College London and its censor is the subject of a paper jointly written with Helen Knowles curator of the collection called Institutional Resistances to the Birthing Body. It was exhibited recently in Birth at TJBoulting, London and Matresence at Richard Saltoun London. Hermione has hosted two international conferences at the RCA called Gender Generation: The Creative Process in Art & Design and Oxytocin in collaboration with Procreate. She will be undertaking a residency at the University of Montreal in 2021 to make a new piece called Actions for Knowledge Repair.

Ellie Featherby graduated as a Midwife (BSc) from King’s College, London and St Thomas’ Hospital where she is a practicing midwife. She currently runs the tours for Birth Rites Collection and won the bursary to take part in the BRC Summer School. Her dissertation was a research proposal on the effectiveness of an antenatal art therapy group, which currently runs at her host Trust. Ellie received her MA in History of Art from The University of Edinburgh in 2012.
