Hi All,
Just an introduction:
PhD (2003) in Environmental psychology and personal construct theory, held several research posts in pharmacy, youth work and fire safety. During a forced hiatus from academia I worked as a consultant and professional musician and producer, and lecturer in music production, performance and personal and professional development. Trained in coaching psychology and psychometrics and am currently finishing an MSc in Health Psychology (Ulster University) and taking mountain leader training. I live in Northern Ireland on the beautiful Antrim Plateau (think Game of Thrones, lots of musicians, poets, story tellers, artists etc. and growing green and blue exercise groups. Scratch beneath the surface and it also reveals high levels of civilian and ex-service trauma from the 'Troubles' and a persistent background fear from the severe threat of dissident paramilitary forces).
I've just finished a contract at Trinity College Dublin Geosciences in homeowner non-testing for radon gas. Currently looking for a part-time post or less stressful research post to complete my MSc (hint, hint!).
Preferred paradigm? 'psychological social psychology' (!). Currently working on a dual process model of decision-making and behaviour change.
Not surprising then that my psychology interests are in combining health, environment and the arts (? echopsychology ?) particularly in prevention and resilience. My take on this?
1. Prevention is a necessity for transformation of individual and community long-term wellbeing and local health service provision, not an add-on.
2. Top-down evidence-based interventions should equally be informed by problem solving bottom-up, ecological and environmental factors.
3. Improving coordination and consistency of values, and service quality between existing community and health services
4. Promoting arts and exercise interests through environmental, historical, geological lenses to promote social cohesiveness
5. My pet subject: improving health resilience and professional development in working musicians
I could go on...
Kind regards
Gary
