Hi Christopher
I completely agree that all service delivery points should require accreditation if one part of the sector does. The 15189 and 22870 standards were supposed to be combined a couple of years ago and we are still awaiting the release of the new standard. It will be interesting to see how accreditation requirements have been amended if at all, to promote NHS services going for it. We have a high level gap analysis but are still a way off being ready. The last 18 months have been lost and we are only now addressing amendments to policies and planning retrospective verification work - most of our analyser verifications/validations pre-dates ISO and were assessed under the CPA POCT standard which we gained back in 2012.
As tests become more accessible over the counter or in the high street setting (pharmacies etc.) there needs to be a different approach to assuring their use in both professional (pharmacist, healthcare worker) and public use.
It really is a minefield and requires a full day of discussion!

Subject: RE: POC network discussion recording 27.5.21
Hi All
Firstly thank you for making this video available.
I was particularly interested in the points made during this presentation, and I wish I had been able to attend to add to the discussion.
We are currently in the middle of our UKAS accreditation as a private healthcare provider for Covid testing. Although all our pathology laboratories are 15189 accredited none of our hospitals currently hold 22870.
It has been a huge challenge even with our experience with UKAS laboratory ISO standards, to meet the extra requirements for 22870. We intend to use this as a starting point to push more of our POCT services into accreditation.
I have the same concerns regarding "over the counter" and "cowboy providers" who are making quick bucks on the back on Covid.
With my experience in both NHS and Private healthcare. I would be as concerned about POCT Covid testing within the NHS as I would within the private sector. The fact that the regulations state that private providers must have this accreditation and NHS hospitals do not does set double standards.
Regulation is required and should be expected when providing a service that any patient require... I would go further and support a move regulate all private POCT services, however to do this all NHS services should be expected to meet the same standard.
Kind Regards
Christopher Jordan
