As part of a major conservation project to revitalise the 17th century library built by Bishop John Cosin, Durham University is looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our progressive Conservation Team as the Cosin Book Conservator.
The Cosin Book Conservator will play a major role in the holistic conservation of the collection in Cosin’s Library with a focus on practical interventive work.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Book Conservator looking to progress their career whilst working on a high-profile collection of historical significance kept in its original environment. Cosin’s Library will present you with stimulating challenges and you will have latitude to explore them, making use of state-of-the-art heritage science resources and world-class specialist knowledge. Durham University has a track record as a centre of excellence for the history of the book, supported by an extensive reference collection held at Palace Green Library; this is something we are committed to build on by developing innovate analytical techniques whilst investing in the preservation of traditional practical skills.

Lendrum Internship in Book Conservation
Graduate Intern (Book Conservation)
Full Time, Fixed Term for 2 years
£18,500 per annum

The Lendrum Internship in Book Conservation has been established to support and train an emerging Book Conservator.
This role is an excellent opportunity for an emerging Conservator to join the Conservation Team at Palace Green Library. Applicants will have previous Conservation work experience or a Conservation qualification and be able to show their commitment to developing as a Book Conservator. Learning and development are central to this position, and the post holder will receive guidance and support as they undertake work to support Conservation activities related to historic library collections.
The Graduate Intern will benefit from a dedicated training budget to support learning activities tailored to their development needs as identified by a professional development plan. They will shadow other members of the Conservation Team to gain experience of broader aspects of archive and library conservation and work closely with colleagues on various book conservation projects.
