Job Purpose
The successful candidate will play a senior leadership role in the School by conducting internationally-leading social science research, delivering research-led education and demonstrating excellence in teaching to support the strategic objectives and priorities of the School/College in line with the University's ambitions. They will be based in the Urban Studies subject, an internationally-leading multidisciplinary group of social scientists, rated joint first in its field at the last UK REF. Within Urban Studies, they will play a significant leadership role within the multi-disciplinary Urban Big Data Centre, an ESRC-funded research centre with an international reputation for its use of new and emerging forms of data to study cities. The Centre has thematic specialisms in transport, housing, education, urban governance and urban sensing, and the successful candidate will be expected to play a leading role in research related to at least one of these, and to contribute to the broader agenda around new and emerging forms of data. They will have the ability to lead multi- and inter-disciplinary research teams, working with colleagues from fields outside the social sciences. They will also make substantial contributions to enhancing teaching, especially in relation to MSc programmes in Urban Analytics and/or Urban Transport. And they will play a leading role in the College's efforts to build capacity in social data sciences more broadly, working alongside the strategic investment posts made in this area.
We welcome applications from candidates keen to contribute to interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange activities, and in particular those working in collaborative and interdisciplinary research groups in one of the College's priority thematic areas: Challenges in Changing Cities; Digital Society and Economy; Addressing Inequalities; Justice, Insecurity and Fair Decision Making; and Sustainable Development. Candidates with other expertise in urban analytics and with the ability to work across disciplinary boundaries are also welcomed. They will undertake substantial responsibilities associated with managing external stakeholder relationships that enhance the University's reputation, advance knowledge exchange, public understanding and outreach, and strengthen links with professional bodies.
Best regards,
Qunshan
