Good Afternoon Everyone
Looking to share an observation here and see if anyone has seen something similar.
At Derriford Hospitals Plymouth we currently have a trust wide drive to promote the use of Actichlor or similar agents for disinfection. (if there was ever a time for strong disinfection practices it would be 2020-2021!)
We suspect the trust wide use of Actichlor or similar agents is causing contamination incidents where our urine analysis dipsticks (tested on automated readers) are returning fasle positive results for blood contamination.
The active ingredient in Actichlor is a known interferent and we have shown that it can cause false positive results for blood when we have experimentally contaminated the strips with Actichlor.
Have any of you noted similar trends?
Very keen to here what others have seen, even if it is "nope! no issues here"
Kind Regards
