We are delighted to invite you to a Valentine’s Day launch of ‘A Good Love Story’ by Sibylle Peters, published by LADA.
In February 2020, right before the first lockdown, the German artist, researcher and long-time LADA collaborator Sibylle Peters, devised 'Queens. The Heteraclub', a temporary night club in Hamburg which offered intimate one-on-one-performances to women who desire men. When Covid hit, Sibylle went from being ‘the first female pimp of St. Pauli’s Red Light District and hugging sixty people a day, into isolation. This is when you need a good love story. As she couldn’t find any, she wrote one herself.
Please join us for 'You Have A Date', an online conversation about love, intimacy and isolation, about the state of pleasure activism today, about ‘heterasexuality’ and the question of what constitutes a good love story.
To talk about these, Sibylle Peters will be joined by artist, activist and editor of German pop feminist Missy Magazine Margarita Tsomou; writer and sexual health activist Almaz Ohene; artist and activist Brian Lobel; artist and Heteraclub collaborator Ansuman Biswas; Canadian based artist and activist Cassie Thornton; and artist and A Good Love Story editor Hester Chillingworth. They will also discuss which Sex & the City episode might be best to watch now, and where and when the goddess of love has been sighted in recent Live Art work.
MORE ABOUT THE BOOK
'A Good Love Story' is a product of 2020’s first lockdown, of not being able to create gatherings and experiences with, and for, other people. It is an account of intensely personal histories and experiences, that usually stay behind the screens. It is also a document of the Heteraclub project and the safe space created there, in which hundreds of women shared their stories of love and pleasure.
A good love story shouldn’t have too many words. This one gets to the point as directly as possible. It turns “me too” into sex-positive empowerment and dark comedy, whilst talking about contemporary Live Art, genderfluidity, online dating, polyamory and its pitfalls. It is a feminist celebration of love and the attempt to escape from sexism, ageism and racism by pitching them all against each other and leaving the party with the sweetest guy of all.
'A Good Love Story' is published by the Live Art Development Agency and exclusively available to buy on Unbound in digital form for only £5 and in printed form for only £10
