Hi Nicola
We use Quadratech Check 4 urine dipsticks across our patch. Performs well (even at concentrations below the stated lower limit of detection) and we have only had a few lot number performance issues identified through our QA programme (quarantine/dispose). We have aspirations to move pregnancy testing onto our Siemens Clinitek Status Connect analysers (80+ in our hospital) and this will require a business case. That should be relatively straight forward once all of our meters are connected - this needs a middleware update which is being finalised.
Usual things for the business case: automated readers removing subjectivity (link to risk of erroneous results), improved governance, performance monitoring, restricted access, one less system to train staff to use (they know how to use the meter already), streamlined quality assurance/quality control, result in patient electronic record, to name a few. The cost differential to be offset against these gains and potential for clinical incident.
We did look briefly at whole blood hCG strips for trauma patients (ED/surgery) where urine couldn't easily be obtained or might be adulterated but it didn’t go far. No verification to share unfortunately and was some time ago.

Subject: urine pregnancy testing
Dear All,
We have just been informed that our urine pregnancy testing kit (Medicheck Passante) is no longer available to order via NHS Supply Chain. So, I would really appreciate your help with finding an alternative please. What does everyone else use without a reader?
Has anyone moved from urine pregnancy testing to capillary blood hCG kits? Are you willing to share your verification data please? What's your experience with these kits?
Also, is anyone willing to share their business case for a reader for pregnancy testing, either urine or blood?
Thanks
Nicola Davey
