The Institute of the Americas would like to recruit a Lecturer (Teaching) in Latin American History on a fixed-term basis for 3 years starting 1 September 2021.

Full time, Grade 8 post (£44,737 - £52,764 per annum)
The post will teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level including a large 30-credit survey module on the History and Politics of Latin America since 1930. In any given year, the post holder will also convene some of the following: a 15-credit undergraduate optional module, a 30-credit final year undergraduate special subject with attached dissertation and one or two 15-credit MA optional modules. The appointee will also contribute lectures to the first-year undergraduate module Encountering the Americas, and the MA core module Researching the Americas. The appointee may also contribute to the third-year undergraduate core course Contemporary Issues in the Americas, and to the teaching of the second-year undergraduate research methods module.
The post holder will also supervise or assist with supervision of MA dissertations, assist in the development of learning materials, preparing schemes of work and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance. Other duties include the development, administration and marking of essays, exams and other assessments; and providing pastoral care and support to students as a personal tutor.
Key Requirements
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Latin American History and membership of a relevant professional organisation. They will have experience of researching, teaching or other employment in the field of Latin American History and be knowledgeable in the subject matter.
The capacity to teach and give other forms of public presentation, including undergraduate courses, core research methods for MA students, and specialist postgraduate taught modules is essential.
They will have experience of assessing student work, supervising academic work by students and the ability to share in the organisation and management of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The ability to manage courses and material using a virtual learning environment is also required.
The appointee will be committed to academic research, high quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students.
