Tuesday 15 December 2020, 10.00 - 11.30 am
When we look back on 2020, it will almost certainly be as the year of coronavirus. It was, of course, supposed to be a milestone year for more positive reasons: it was supposed to be the year we ended child poverty in the UK. But with rising child poverty even before the pandemic, we now find ourselves facing a child poverty crisis. And with rising unemployment and ongoing economic uncertainty, what next for the goal to end child poverty?
This year we’ve seen the nation come together around campaigning for free school meals, and increasing public support for our vital social security system – a system more and more families have come to rely on perhaps for the first time in 2020. How do we now build the future we want post-pandemic, where children are free from poverty and able to thrive?
Join us at an event on Tuesday 15 December at 10.00 – 11.30 am where you will hear from:
• The Rt Hon Gordon Brown
• Baroness Philippa Stroud, CEO, the Legatum Institute
• Kate Green MP, shadow secretary of state for education
• Torsten Bell, CEO, the Resolution Foundation
• Alison Garnham, CEO, Child Poverty Action Group
The event will be chaired by journalist and broadcaster Ayesha Hazarika.

The event will draw on our book – 2020 Vision: ending child poverty for good – which looks at what has been achieved since the pledge to end child poverty was made, as well as considering what went wrong and the lessons that can be learned from the highs and the lows of the past twenty years. It examines how the challenge of ending child poverty has changed over this period, and outlines a new ambitious plan to end child poverty for good.
All attendees will get a pdf copy of the book.
This event is delivered in conjunction with the Social Policy Association.
