Seasons Greetings from Dublin,

In Irish, A Drawing is called 'Líníocht', something with linear qualities.

The word for the act of 'Drawing' is shared with 'Pulling' , same as in other languages, and the word Artist covers a multitude of activities and genders.

Hi Eduardo

The interlingual always offers so much, as your reference to Tolkein testifies. I love your playful approach, like Stephen I love drawthor – draw to write and write to draw. Perhaps we need to draw the word to find the solution?

Hi everyone,

Quite an interesting request!

Imagine that your language even genderized Drawing itself because there are very little examples of neutral gender in Portuguese (Portugal, the country, is neutral).

Desenho is masculine whereas Arte is feminine… In Italian it was the loving father of the three arts, Equally loving each one of them.

So, since, your language has the possibility of neutral and lives on neologisms, my humble suggestions are Drawctant and, when you hold a PhD, Drawctor. When you are really humble, a Drawsmith. If you research a lot, a Drawentist. A dilettante could be a Drawinger. In the Middle Earth, a Drawrf or a Drawblin (evil).

The problem with ‘Artist’ is that there are people who draw that do not consider themselves as artists. I think I’m an author, but not an artist. Or sometimes I’m authoring something that is between literary work and visual art. Maybe a Drawthor, of course, and, in my case, also a Drawctor.

:0)

Season’s Greetings,

Eduardo Corte-Real

I'm looking for a general non-gendered term. (ie sub for draughtsman.) draughtsperson is way too cumbersome. I'm using "drawer" for now. any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Andrea
