EVA London 2021: Call for Proposals

The EVA London 2021 conference is planned for 5th–9th July 2021.
For full/latest details of the event see: http://www.eva-london.org/eva-london-2021/

*Deadline for proposals*
Main conference: Monday 11th January 2021
Research workshop: Wednesday 10th March 2021

*Proposing for EVA London 2021*

*Main conference*
Proposals may be for a paper, a paper with demo, a demonstration, a workshop or a panel discussion, and should be related to at least one of the conference themes. All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference.

Proposal must be submitted via the EasyChair website at: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=evalondon2021

Please note the following:

   - Please submit a summary proposal of up to 400 words in text form, together with an optional (but recommended) draft of a paper in PDF.

   - Authors of all proposals selected for EVA London 2021 will be invited to submit a completed paper for publication in the proceedings. Proposals are peer-reviewed and submitted papers will be copyedited for publication (both physical and digital). Some presentations may be published as summaries. Papers must be in an appropriate form to be accepted. Further information will be provided in due course.

   - We regret that EVA cannot supply letters of invitation or support.

Further details of post-proposal deadlines are available at: http://www.eva-london.org/eva-london-2021/key-dates/

*Papers*
Papers will be presented in 20-minute slots (either in plenary sessions or in parallel, with 15 minutes allocated for the talk itself) and be associated with a publication of a 3-8 page “long” paper in the proceedings. At least one author must register for the date of presentation of the paper. Paper presentations will be physical in London or online depending on what is possible in due course.

*Demonstrations*
Assuming we can hold a physical conference, demonstrations will be formally timetabled normally in parallel with other sessions, in 20-minute slots or in combination with a paper in a 30-minute slot. Proposals are invited and should be submitted in outline as for papers, above. However, we will not expect detailed demo requirements until nearer the conference, to allow time for development. For publication, you will be able to provide a 1-2 page “short” paper describing the demo if not associated with a long paper. At least one author must register for the date of presentation of the demonstration.

*Panel sessions and workshops*
Proposals for panel sessions or workshops are welcome. Please note the following:

   - A *panel session* would normally consist of two or more panel members who each make brief presentations or statements, followed by a discussion with the audience. We will look for panel sessions which we judge to be of wide interest to the EVA London audience and which would stimulate and engage the audience. Panel sessions last 30 minutes with an optional associated paper of 1-8 pages (i.e., a short or long paper). Note that all panel members must register for at least the day of the panel. A panel session may be physical or online.

   - A *workshop* should be a practical tutorial or coordinated set of presentations and would normally be delivered in one or two 90-minute sessions or a 120-minute session if online. Note that all workshop presenters must register for at least the day of the workshop. An optional associated paper of 1-8 pages (i.e., a short or long paper) can appear in the proceedings or a joint paper covering several workshops is also possible. A workshop may be physical or online.

*Conference themes*
EVA London’s Conference themes include the use of new and emerging technologies in the following areas (to be broadly interpreted), and a focus on “AI and the Arts: Artificial Imagination”:

   - Digital Art
   - Data, Scientific and Creative Visualisation
   - Digitally Enhanced Reality and Everyware
   - 2D and 3D Imaging, Display and Printing
   - Mobile Applications
   - Museums and Collections
   - Music, Performing arts, and Technologies
   - Open Source and Technologies
   - Preservation of Digital Visual Culture
   - Virtual Cultural Heritage
   - Ethics in Digital Art
   - Digital Art Histories
   - Artificial Intelligence

*Research Workshop*
Held on one or two days of the EVA London conference depending on the number of accepted submissions, the Research Workshop is an opportunity for postgraduate students and artists to present their work and share research work in progress in an informal and supportive setting. The EVA London 2021 Research Workshop is planned for the afternoon of Monday 5th July 2021 and perhaps extended to the afternoon of Tuesday 6th July 2021 as well*. *

A Research Workshop proposal is for a 15-minute presentation on your ideas, plans or initial results (including a few minutes for questions and discussion). Accepted Research Workshop presenters can attend free on the day of the presentation. A written submission of up to two pages may be incorporated in a joint paper edited by the Research Workshop organiser. A separate paper may be possible by arrangement with and at the discretion of the organiser, at an additional charge.

The deadline for proposals is 10th March 2021 and should be sent by email to the Research Workshop organiser, Graham Diprose ([log in to unmask]).

Note that some proposals for the main conference may be accepted for the Research Workshop instead.

*EVA London - bringing together artists, designers, researchers, technologists, to discuss electronic visualisation technologies in art, design, music, dance, theatre, the sciences and more.*

We look forward to hearing from you!
