Hi Theresa,
Others may have alternative views, but an additional risk that we identified when looking into how the test strips perform was the observation that the strips are intended to have a level of heparin resistance to support INR (warfarin) monitoring for patients transitioning from heparin to warfarin. This is could be a hazard if used routinely as many patients are on prophylactic heparin. Therefore, we only recommend use for measuring INR on warfarin.
Best wishes,
Chris

Hi Theresa
We don't test as a 'normality' screen as this is not the function of the device and not what it has been CE marked for.
As Helen and Sharon have replied, we only use in the Anticoagulation Clinic / Ambulatory Unit for Warfarinised patients or pre-op in the Surgical Centre and Endoscopy Unit to ensure that patients on Warfarin have reduced their Warfarin to a suitable pre-op level.
Best wishes
Karen

Subject: POCT INR
Hi All,
Sorry another question from me!
We have a POCT Committee meeting approaching and I have been asked to find out if other Trusts consider POCT INR testing (in lieu of a full clotting screen) acceptable for pre-procedural clotting test, mostly confirming normality rather than assessing effectiveness of anticoagulation?
Many thanks,
Theresa
