Hi Psychology Postgraduate,
I am trainee teacher teaching A-level Psychology in a college in East Sussex. I finished my PhD in Psychology (at University of Sussex) last year and now happily continuing as a teacher :)
I am emailing you because we have been organising some PhD (virtual) talks in the Psychology department at the college I am doing my placement. They have something similar in the Biology department, but nothing for Psychology which is a shame given the high number of students taking Psychology! As such, I thought I'd get in touch to see if PhDs (or anyone who might be interested) might be interested in giving short online talks about their research to college students - this would be a great opportunity for the students to learn more about psychological research beyond textbooks, to promote the subject in the college/department, and an excellent way for students to expand UCAS application. Not to mention, it is a great opportunity for you to communicate your research to a lay audience - I wish I did this during my PhD. The talks would be short (around 15 minutes + time for questions), simple/not too technical. They do study research methods at A level, but as you can imagine they have no knowledge of complex statistical analyses.
I understand how busy everyone is, but if anyone is interested it would be great to hear from you! It would be great to get talks on a variety of topics as they do cover quite a lot at A level. If you are interested, please feel free to email me directly, I can give more details and send out a sheet with some possible dates for you to choose depending on your availability.
Hoping to hear from lots of you!
Best,
Petra
