Subject: RE: Video supporting the use of lateral flow COVID antigen tests
Dear All
Many thanks Tony, this is most useful and thank you for your insights.
I have been issued guidance in my Trust from NHS England Test and Trace Learning Hub so also thought I would share. I didn't listen to the video (my PC has limitations!) and have obviously only viewed it at the moment and looked at the text.
Following on from Tony:
- I did not see that it was specific about blowing the nose (not to say it is not verbal) but does say to place the swab 1.5 cm in each nostril and rotate 10 times
- I saw that it did say to clean hands before and after (but is was not visual about this)
- It did say to keep the device on a flat surface.
- The written guidance is more clear on all these aspects I think.
- The form to write the results is at the end of the written guidance.
The link is below fyi:

It is a BETA site so continually being developed and feedback / constructive comments is welcomed from all.
Best wishes

Dear mailbase
In case any staff require support in self testing using the lateral flow COVID antigen tests, please see the video following this link kindly shared by Royal Surrey NHS FT.

Things that came to mind -
-The written guidance for use encourages blowing the nose first to remove excess mucus
-Swab sampling from the nostril - 1.5-2.5cm depth (not explicit in the video). We know that false negatives are likely if sampling takes place from the outer nostril area
-Personally I would place the test on a flat surface before dispensing the solution - this also doesn't seem explicit in the guidance or video
-Reporting - There is a useful form at the end of the written guidance (link attached) and results are to be reported as per local guidance.
