**With apologies for cross-posting**
Following a successful pilot, Jisc and JSTOR are collaborating to make digitised UK special collections more widely available to researchers around the world. Jisc member organisations are invited to contribute digitised archival collections to be hosted and delivered on the JSTOR platform as part of ‘Open Community Collections’. The goals of this project are to raise the visibility and impact of the collections, to afford researchers new opportunities by increasing the breadth of primary sources to which they have access, and to further support the digital shift in research, teaching and learning.
Key facts:
- All work to ingest and deliver the collections is undertaken by JSTOR.
- There is no charge or fee for participating institutions.
- Content in the Open Community Collections initiative is openly accessible to all.
- There is no editorial policy or restriction on the subject matter of collections.
- Participating institutions are given their own landing page, highlighting and gathering together their collections.
- All collections in the Open Community Collections are cross-searchable with one another as well as with other JSTOR content.
The call for participation in this project in now open and parties wishing to take part (or simply to discuss the project further) should express their interest via the ‘Get involved’ page, before the end of November. More information is available on Jisc’s project page for this initiative and the results of the pilot scheme can be seen on the Jisc landing page within Open Community Collections.
In addition, a webinar will be held on the afternoon of Tuesday 20th October to explain more about this project and to address any questions that people might have. Please feel free to sign up to find out more or to get in touch directly, at any time, with queries.
