THE POETRY KIT EKPHRASTIC POETRY COMPETITION 2020
Our competition is for poems based on a painting (this can be broadly interpreted). There are no style or length restrictions, but it should be stressed that a short poem is just as likely to be selected as a longer one.  
1st prize is £75  -   2nd prize is £50  -  3rd prize is £25

all entries must be received before midnight THURSDAY 24th SEPTEMBER 2020
Entries received after this time will be discarded. All entries are judged anonymously so please do not put any identifying features on the poems.
 Entry fees are as follows.  
1 poem    £3.50   3 Poems  £8.00  -5 poems  £10.00

Writing Ekphrastic Poetry – 7th -27th September 2020 
The aim of this course is to look at the different approaches that can be taken to bring new insights to poems that engage with a piece of visual art.  During the course poets will be asked to respond to a series of paintings using a variety of techniques. Poems will be workshopped, and full feedback given. The cost of this course is £30

Poetry and Music – 7th – 27th September 2020
This course looks at the interaction between poetry and music, how music can inspire poetry and the use of poetry as lyric.  The musical properties of poetry, rhythm and line choices, and new ways to use sonic devices in poetry.  We will be looking for many opportunities to develop these ideas into poems. Full feedback and help will be given during the course. The course will be conducted online over three weeks, at a cost of £30 –

Poetry and the Natural world – 7th - 27th September 2020
This is a short online course for poets who want to look at the ways to engage with the natural world and look at the impact of human activities on the world around us.  On this course we will move from the romantic view of nature to the urban landscape and to the impact of human activity. We will be looking at and writing poetry relevant to our changing world.  The course will be conducted online over three weeks, at a cost of £30 –

Poetry and Science – 4th -25th October 2020
This short online course looks at how poetry can interface with different sciences and provide a way to use exciting ideas in poetry, and how poetry can interpret a scientific world view.   Starting with geology, and on physics and astronomy.  You do not need a scientific background just an interest in finding new ways to develop poetry. The course will be conducted online over three weeks, at a cost of £30 –

We offer three online courses, suitable for the beginner, intermediate or more experienced poet. These courses start on the second and fourth Monday of each month. All courses offer full and complete individual feedback and support.  

We also offer a Mentoring programme.  Our Individual Mentoring Programmes for Poets are always available and can start at any time. All mentoring is designed to meet the needs of the individual and to help them progress their poetry and develop a structured writing career.

POETRY IN THE PLAGUE YEAR We continue to invite contributions from poets around the world for our online anthology for poems that are written during lockdown or coming out of lockdown or ongoing period while the virus is with us. The poem does not need to engage with the pandemic but must be written during this time.
