Dear Colleagues,

Reference: Invitation to Participate: World Sustainable Development Teach-In Day 2020, 4th December 2020

With this message, we invite you to participate in the World Sustainable Development Teach-In Day 2020 - A Global Movement
on Sustainable Development Action - which is going to be carried out online on 4th December 2020 and which will continue
on an yearly basis until 2030.

The World Sustainable Development Teach-In Day 2020 (WSD-TID 2020) marks the beginning of a decade-long global movement that
aims to raise and spread awareness about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), a universal call to action
to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. It is a major online event
that aims to accelerate progress towards achieving the UN SDGs at the grassroots level by focusing on sustainabilty education.
We seek to infuse sustainability thinking into current education systems and inspire current and future students by reorienting
educational practices. We also want to mobilize and equip university teachers with solid, hands-on knowledge about the SDGs,
so that they can integrate them into their curriculum/teaching.

During this day, thousands of lectures on sustainable development and on
the SDGs will be held at universities round the world, mobilising
teaching staff and learners from all continents. This note reports on the 2003 event:

The WSD-TID 2020 adopts an open access format, thereby facilitating networking and knowledge transfer within a truly international,
digital learning environment. Academic staff from universities all over the world are encouraged to partake in this global
sustainability initiative by contributing with power point presentations designed as an open educational resources (OER), prepared
in English, German, French, Portuguese or Spanish, and related to any of the four categories listed below. The presentations
will then be collated and made accessible in the WSD-TID 2020 website – www.dl4sd.org
The themes are:

Category A: Theory and practice of sustainable development
Category B: Environmental, social, political and economic aspects of sustainable development
Category C: Education, communication and training on sustainable development.
Category D: In-Campus and regional initiatives involving different groups and stakeholders whose approach/methods
may be replicable or likely to be of interest to a wide audience.

How does it work?
It is very simple: we invite teaching staff at universities round the world, to register in advance, and join us on the day.
All presentations, which are now currently being processed, will be made available for free download and use by teachers
and students from round the world on 4th December 2020, the World Sustainable Development Teach-In Day. It is an excellent
opportunity to become familiar with sustainability teaching, materials and best practices from round the world.

If you wish to be part of this effort, which entails no costs, please visit our platform
and register on-line. Further details will be shared at a later stage.

The WSD-TID is organized by the European School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR) [https://esssr.eu] and the
Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP) [https://www.haw-hamburg.de/en/ftz-nk/programme/iusdrp/]
and led by the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (Germany) and Manchester Metropolitan University (UK).

Franziska Wolf (franziska.wolf(at)haw-hamburg.de) or Cíntia Nunes (Cintia.Nunes(at)haw-hamburg.de).

You are welcome to share this e-mail as well as the attached document with other universities and interested colleagues!

Best regards,

The Organising Team
