Call for Papers: "Handbook of Best Practices in Sustainable Development at University Level"

There is a perceived need for mobilising the various stakeholders when
attempting to promote sustainability in higher education and to promote
best practices, which may inspire further initiatives. But despite this
need, there are a few publications handling this matter in a coherent
way. In order to meet the pressing need for publications which may
document and disseminate examples of best practice on sustainable
development at university level, the "Handbook of Best Practices in Sustainable Development at University Level"
will be produced by the European School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR) https://esssr.eu/
and the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP)
https://www.mmu.ac.uk/environmental-science-research/inter-university-sustainable-development-research-programme/

It will provide a special emphasis to state-of-the art descriptions of
approaches, methods, initiatives and projects from universities across
the world, which may be regarded as best practice (i.e. which are
continuous, widely accepted, replicable, upscalable and may be applied
in different contexts).

The book, which will be published as part of the "World Sustainability
Series" by Springer
http://www.springer.com/series/13384?detailsPage=titles one of the top 5
world scientific publishers, will introduce examples of best practices be it
via case studies, examples of projects, institutional policies,
innovative methods and tools, which show what can be achieved by both,
institutional and stakeholder engagement in higher education. The book
will also discuss examples of initiatives coordinated by universities
but involving civil society, the private sector, and public sector
(including local, national and intergovernmental bodies). In particular,
it will describe practical experiences, partnerships, networks, and
training schemes for building capacy aimed at fostering the cause of
sustainable development at institutions of higher education. The
editors are looking for an international, balanced combination of
teaching theory and practice, with results from research, case studies
and examples which may be replicable elsewhere. Expressions of interest
for papers dealing with one or more of the following issues, and
consisting initially of a 200 words abstract -with all contact details
of the authors- are now being sought:

- Practical experiences from different stakeholders groups towards sustainable development
- Capacity-building programmes
- The implementation of sustainable development at the university’s institutional strategies
- Partnerships and networks on sustainable development
- The role of the stakeholders to boost sustainable development at university level
- Aspects of policy and governance towards sustainable development
- Evaluation of collaborative approaches
- Successful experiences of engagement of the academic community towards sustainable development
- Successful experiences of integrated campus operation (energy, travel, emissions, waste, landscaping, food and dietary)
- Successful experiences of cogeneration from renewable sources (biodigesters; solar, wind, thermal) at universities
- Green and smart buildings at universities
- Campus sustainability monitoring and assessment tools
- University governance in sustainable procurement and green purchasing

Other themes may also be accepted, and interested authors are warmly
encouraged to contact the editors and seek advice.
The deadline for submissions of abstracts is the 20th October 2020. Full
papers are due by the 30th January 2021.

The book is expected to published in the summer of 2021. Abstracts
should be sent by the above deadline to: [log in to unmask]

Further details on submissions and format will be discussed with the
authors whose abstracts have been accepted.
