Senior Behavioural Insights and Research Adviser, Competition and Markets Authority (CMA)
Application Deadline: 8th September 2020
his is an exciting opportunity to join the new Behavioural Hub at the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and play a pivotal role shaping the future of behavioural science and insight, understanding consumer issues and using data, technology and analytics to rebalance markets in favour of consumers.
As part of the strategy for the 2020s, the CMA launched a new Behavioural Hub, drawing on economics, data science, and behavioural science to analyse and comprehend complex consumer issues and support the CMA’s mission to make markets work in the interests of consumers, businesses and the economy.
The Hub’s work has already made an impact. Our consultancy informed the CMA’s COVID response on issues for consumers. Our analysis of consumer decision making, and businesses’ uses of online choice architecture underpin several CMA projects for example sections of the CMA’s recent report on its market study into digital advertising and online platforms (e.g. Facebook, Google). The Hub has an extensive backlog of requests for new work from across the CMA. This presents a unique and exciting opportunity for a Senior Behavioural Insights and Research Adviser to conduct cutting edge applied behavioural projects to address competition and consumer issues in the UK.
In this role, you will work closely with competition and consumer experts, economists, lawyers and other professionals to develop and incorporate behavioural insights and research. You will take a key role in developing our research methods and appropriate applications of these to develop evidence to drive new insights. We envisage members of the Hub, depending on their specialisms, contributing to building our capabilities to conduct our own primary research and to work with others (e.g. academics) on joint projects and to ensure robust methods are appropriately used within that context. You will also support and collaborate with Behavioural Hub colleagues to build our collective approach and evidence base.
