The next webinar run by the Developing, Teaching and Testing Academic Listeners SIG will take place on Friday 4th September from 16:00 to 17:00 (UK time) via Zoom. The webinar will again be on the theme of assessing listening and two short 15-minute presentations will be followed by time for discussion. Details on the presentations are as follows:
1. Developing an online pre-sessional lecture and seminar discussion assessment
Wil Hardman and Rob Playfair, University of Liverpool
In this talk, we will describe how we developed an integrated online lecture and seminar discussion assessment task to replace our paper-based discrete item listening test on our summer pre-sessional. We will explain how we used the listening and speaking competency statements from the 'BALEAP can do Framework' to create the learning outcomes, and then, how we used the learning outcomes to develop the task and marking criteria. Finally, we will present some anecdotal feedback on the task and share how we intend to gather evidence about its validity as a measure of preparedness for study at the University of Liverpool.
2. Developing listening assessment for pre-sessional modules
Peter Matthews and Niamh Mullen, University of Leeds
In this talk, we will outline how we have approached designing a listening test for pre-sessional courses to test students studying at different levels. We will discuss design principles and considerations for the test, contextual factors influencing test design, and the format and procedure for the test. We will also discuss next steps for the development of the listening test.
To register for the webinar, please provide your details via the form below. Details for the Zoom meeting will be sent to you a few days prior to the webinar:
