Library and Archive news
If you missed the four recent livestream conversations about fascinating astronomical books and manuscripts at the Royal Astronomical Society and the Linda Hall Library in Kansas City, but would like to catch up, links to the recordings have been added to the website: https://ras.ac.uk/library/treasures-of-the-ras
In response to the Coronavirus outbreak, some publishers have made it possible to temporarily access ebooks for free. We have added some astronomy and astrophysics ebooks to the library catalogue which will be available until at least the end of this month.

Chasing shadows at Jupiter: a livestream telescope observation from the summit of Mauna Kea
On July 17th 2020 from 11am - 4pm, the Royal Astronomical Society will be hosting a livestream with University of Leicester astronomers Dr. Tom Stallard and Dr. Henrik Melin to remotely observe the shadow of the Solar System’s largest moon Ganymede as it passes over the face of Jupiter.
There will be two Q&A opportunities with the scientists while Ganymede enters and passes across Jupiter as well as talks by Prof. Emma Bunce, President of the RAS and Professor of Planetary Plasma Physics at the University of Leicester, whose research is on the magnetospheres of Saturn and Jupiter, and RAS librarian Dr Sian Prosser discussing early observations of Jupiter as part of the RAS bicentenary celebrations.
