Subject: "WRITING FROM DARK PLACES - TEFFI, GROSSMAN, KOSZTOLÁNYI
Here is a virtual event put on by NYRB Classics with the McNally Bookshop in New York. For me, the high points are the excellent readings from Grossman's STALINGRAD by the writer Phil Klay and Boris Dralyuk's perceptive remarks about some unexpected similarities between Teffi and Grossman. Both writers - Boris points out - have learned from Chekhov. Both share an eye for telling detail. Both have "a doctorly, rather than clinical" attitude to their characters, an awareness of "what ails them and what makes them beautiful.” And lots more of interest!
