Hi all
Following an initial meeting to develop a UK archives and records management PhD/ECR network, I’m just circulating information regarding the next steps for the group (please send on to any PhD students in your organisations or departments!).
• After discussions with attendees last Monday we have set up a Discord channel to aid communication between members of the network and provide a platform for future event planning. The link to access this is https://discord.gg/QDk9kSj This link won't expire so please join us, introduce yourself, get involved with the conversation, and share the link with anyone you think may be interested. This will be the last email and, for the time being, future communication will take place on Discord, however we welcome other suggestions for communication methods from network members. If for any reason you are unable/do not wish to use Discord please email me directly and I will endeavour to share event invites with you via email.
• In the coming weeks we will be organising regular shut up and write sessions, a reading group programme, and a monthly discussion forum for problem, experience and skill sharing.
• The first date for your diary is for a sharing/discussion forum at 2pm on Friday 31st July. Our broad topic will be focus, motivation and procrastination while working from home and an invite to the meeting will be shared on Discord earlier that week. Future topics over the coming months may include mitigating for the impact of Covid-19 on research, unexpected skills developed during the PhD, and research ethics. If you have any suggestions for topics please add them to the channel on discord.
• In the autumn we will launch a regular work in progress seminar series. Please see Discord for future updates.
• We welcome any member of the Network who wishes to organise additional events and hope that Discord will provide a fruitful platform for doing so.
All the best
Kirsty
