Friends,
We are all aware of the impact of Covid-19 and the corresponding
uncertainties going forwards, and I'm sure we are all wanting to do a
small part to help.
Given that it's likely that most teaching of HCI in Universities will be
at least partly online for at least part of the forthcoming year, a lot
of people are having to consider how to teach this, and worrying about
preparing a vast quantity of materials, especially videos. This is
where the community can help.
If we all contributed a small segment of educational material, we could
create a very large online resource, from which people can select
materials to help them produce effective and interesting online courses.
Maybe you want to do a talking head video about prototyping, or have an
interesting case study with images and supporting links and references.
Maybe you want to create an animation about sketching, or cover design
techniques through analysis of existing designs.
Whatever you think you could contribute, if we all did something then we
can support each other in producing materials for courses, entertain our
students by not having the same presenters all the time, and especially
support newer academic staff who haven't the experience, backlog of
materials or time to pull together a course on a mew medium.
You can contribute whether you are a lecturer, researcher, company,
independent, whatever. Whilst we are focussing on teaching a standard
HCI curriculum, additional contributions around HCI careers, research,
roles, history and suchlike are welcomed too.
I've created a Google form for you to volunteer materials into - these
can be pre-existing ones, or ones you'd be prepared to do. No
commitments are made by submitting something, but please be prepared to
be asked to provide it!

I will create the necessary repositories, licences and suchlike should
we get sufficient interest. This is a good chance for our community to
pull together and shine.
best wishes,
Russell.
