Dear Medsoc Members,
We hope everyone is doing well given the continued pandemic and lockdown conditions. This is a reminder that we have cancelled this year’s annual conference due to be held in Lancaster.
We have also decided to cancel our AGM, usually hosted on the last day of the conference. As part of this we are suspending nominations and changes to the committee. This does not contravene the Medsoc constitution. If current committee members wish to leave we will seek to co-opt Medsoc members as and when appropriate. We have made this decision on the assumption that we will be able to plan and attend our annual conference in Lancaster in 2021, where we will resume standard procedures. If you have any suggestions, concerns or questions about this please contact Jen Remnant (co-convenor) on [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
These decisions have been made on the basis of limited committee capacity and to allow current committee members to fulfill their committee duties in full.
We are still awarding the 2020 FSHI book prize<https://www.britsoc.co.uk/groups/medical-sociology-groups/medical-sociology-medsoc-study-group/prizes/foundation-for-the-sociology-of-health-and-illness-book-prize/> (closed for nominations) and Phil Strong Memorial Post Graduate Prize<https://www.britsoc.co.uk/groups/medical-sociology-groups/medical-sociology-medsoc-study-group/prizes/phil-strong-memorial-prize/> (closing date August) so please encourage eligible post graduate students to apply, and keep an eye out for further announcements.
Again, we hope that you are safe and well, and very much look forward to booking a disco and smoke machine for our next conference.
Very best,
Jen, Sarah & Shadreck (Medsoc Co-convenors)
