Dear all,
I prefer in academic writing the following usage: "association" includes
minerals that are spatially associated together (universally in a given
sample) and "assemblage" are those in (supposed or interpreted)
equilibrium. Thus, a rock can have a rather diverse mineral
association, consisting of inclusions, relics, overgrowths etc., but
defining one or even several assemblages that formed during a single
step or multiple steps in its history.
Paragenesis - there was a committee in Germany in 70's, discussing
"problems of parageneses". If someone needs a reference, I can locate
it (let me know).
Cheers,
David
